A Guide to Royal Belum State Park

Beautiful hues of nature at Royal Belum State Park

Imagine waking-up to the tranquil sound of the rainforest and the shimmering waters of Lake Temenggor surrounded by 130 million years old ancient forests…

I count my lucky stars having the opportunity to  explore Royal Belum State Park. This park is estimated to be over 130 million years old, and it is older than the Amazon rainforests! This certainly was an adventure I’ve been dreaming of….

The park surrounds Lake Temenggor, which is actually a man-made lake created by damming the Perak River. It covers an area of 15,200 hectares , TWICE the size of Singapore!

The park is a biodiversity hotspot, home to a vast array of flora and fauna, including rare and endangered species like the Malayan tiger, tapir, and Asian elephant elephant. Jungle trekking, swimming in waterfalls, jumping off the wooden boat into the warm waters of Lake Temenggor and visiting the home of Orang Asli Jahai, the indigenous tribe of Royal Belum are some of the adventures of this incredible park.

In every moment, the beauty of Royal Belum State Park was evident. The unspoiled wilderness, the rich biodiversity, and the warmth of the locals we encountered made this adventure unforgettable.

Visit The Orang Asli Settlement

Spreading love and happiness is the greatest joy of my travels. It is never through money, but with time and compassion. We don’t need to be rich to make a difference. Often, it is our time shared with others that becomes much more valuable than all the money in the world.

I ventured into the lush wilderness of Royal Belum State Park, where I had the privilege of meeting the indigenous tribe of Orang Asli Jahai.

The Orang Asli in Royal Belum National Park consist of various indigenous groups, each with its own language and customs. The diversity among these communities is a testament to the rich tapestry of Malaysia’s indigenous heritage.

My time with the Orang Asli was truly heartwarming. I had the chance to mingle with the children. We chatted, we laughed and we had a game of football together. I always have spare packets of biscuits or sweets in my rucksack when I travel to places like this. That to me is always the best way to break the ice with the local children. The simple act of kindness clearly brought so much joy to their little hearts. It reminded me that charity doesn’t always have to be about big gestures; sometimes, the small acts of kindness make the biggest impact.

In our fast-paced world, it is essential to take a step back and remember that spreading love and positivity can make a difference. The Orang Asli people live in harmony with nature and each other, and their sense of community and connection is truly inspiring.

Approach interactions with the Orang Asli with respect, sensitivity and support their communities. They are an integral part of Malaysia’s cultural and natural heritage.

These photos hold more than just smiles. They’re a reminder that kindness has no boundaries. In a world of buzzing distractions, these moments reminded me to slow down and spread love. It’s a universal language that can brighten even the darkest corners.

Keep exploring with our hearts. Spread love and kindness. It is free and the world is in dire need of it.

Casuarina Houseboat

For a unique, nature-focused adventure, Casuarina Houseboat in Royal Belum State Park is the way to go. It is an immersion right into the heart of nature, create lasting memories in this beautiful, untouched wilderness. I spent 2 nights on this fabulous houseboat exploring Royal Belum State Park.

Casuarina Houseboat is a 3 deck houseboat with 10 air-conditioned twin rooms. It comes complete with 2 speedboat and two bamboo rafts. The top deck is the dining area with 360 degrees of an unobstructed views of the beautiful Lake Temenggor. This houseboat is a great option for a big family holiday or a company team building vacations.

Passengers would board the boat at the Pulau Banding Public jetty and from there, you will be taken over an hour’s journey across the lake and anchored in the middle of nowhere, away from civilisation and mobile phone connection. Perfect way for digital detox for family escapade or team building isn’t it?

Jump into the gorgeous lake, row the bamboo raft or go fishing with the boat crew, an adventure on Casuarina Boathouse will certainly leave a memory of a lifetime!
