PERAK ACCOMMODATION

On my recent road trip through Perak, I’ve experienced accommodations that were unique and some that left footprints my heart. These aren’t just room for the night, some felt like home… Others provided a very warm welcome by their friendly hosts.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, Perak is definitely filled with great people! It is its people that made Perak so incredibly wonderful!

HULU PERAK

1. PENGKALAN HULU HOT SPRING

The town of Kroh (formerly known as Keroh) is known to the locals as the getaway Thailand town of Betong. The drive to this most northern district of Perak was splendid. Beautiful long winding road with views of drowned forests and lovely Malay kampung (villages)

Natural hot springs sprung out from the grounds of this family friendly resort making it popular among local tourists. Visitors tend to flock  to the hot springs that the lovely river right by the resort seemed left alone. I’ve had a lovely time reading my book on the swing right by the river in the morning with a melodious chorus of birdsong in the background. It was so peaceful. The foggy morning made it so dramatic.

2. TERATAK PAKSU HOMESTAY

A traditional Kampung feel with chalets overlooking a lake where you could fish spacious grounds with fruit trees, Teratak Poksu ticked all the boxes for a true Perak experience. The 1970s television boxes will surely make younger generations go….”Whhhatttt?”

The most valuable part about Teratak Paksu is its hosts. Paksu and Maksu (the classic Malay reference to address an elder person but youngest son of a family) are hostess with the mostest. Be warned, their warmth and friendliness might make you stay longer! Paksu took the trouble climbing a coconut tree just to serve us fresh coconuts when we were there!
